Naomi Pullin (pictured left), along with her father Simon and fiancé Peter Westbury (21, 52 and 39) from Filton, Bristol are taking the fight against dementia to the Welsh Coastal Path as part of a fundraising effort for Alzheimer’s Society.
The trio hopes to raise over £1,000 by walking 80 miles along the Welsh Coastal Path between Friday 10th and Sunday 12th August 2012.
Beginning in the Roman town of Loughor, making their way along the Gower Peninsula through Rhossili , along the picturesque Three Cliffs Bay and past the Mumbles beaches before finishing three days and 80 miles later in the town of Margam, Naomi, Simon and Peter will take on this challenge to raise money for the 750,000 people in the UK who have a form of dementia.
Naomi said:
“I decided to take part in this challenge for Alzheimer’s Society because my Grandad Don has Alzheimer’s and I have seen firsthand the difficulties it can bring both to him and for my Nana as his full-time carer. I am a great supporter of the Alzheimer’s Society and the work they do. I have been a volunteer Befriender at the Bath RUH, spending time with many patients whilst they are staying in hospital, and also attend a Singing for the Brain session with my Grandparents. It’s so fantastic to see how just singing as a group can really change the mood of someone’s day. My Grandad really enjoys his time there and it also allows my Nana the chance to meet up with friends and share her experiences with them. The support is incredible.”
“I love the Gower Coast and I’m hoping that by raising funds for the Alzheimer’s Society that more support can be provided for people with dementia. I also took part in the Memory Walk Marathon in September 2011, so am prepared for the blisters but know this is a much greater challenge.”
Jeremy Hughes, Chief Executive at Alzheimer’s Society, said:
“We are delighted that Naomi, Simon and Peter are giving their time to support Alzheimer’s Society. One in three people over 65 will die with dementia. It is more than just memory loss; it robs people of their lives and has a devastating impact on families and loved ones.”
“As a charity, we rely on the generosity of individuals like these to help us continue our vital work. Please back Naomi, Simon and Peter in their fundraising efforts so that Alzheimer’s Society can continue leading the fight against dementia.”
