A ‘fly-in‘ organised by Filton Airfield for today (Saturday 21st April) will see more than 70 aircraft visiting the North Bristol airport between 9am and 4:30pm.
The event has proven so popular that it is now over-subscribed, with a further twenty aircraft placed on a reserve list.
Most of the arrivals will happen between 10am and 1pm, and with a westerly wind, they should be landing on runway 27, over the A38 Gloucester Road.
Enthusiasts are predicting a staggering display of light aircraft, with 35 different aircraft types represented.
Staff at the airfield are organising an barbecue and refreshments for the visiting pilots and passengers.
There will be no public access to the site but there are expected to be plenty of photo opportunities from locations around the airfield’s perimeter.
BAE Systems, who own Filton Airfield, have announced plans to close it at the end of the year. The Save Filton Airfield group considers the facility to be vital to the long-term future of the local aerospace industry and is fighting to keep it open.
