Pedestrian critical after Abbey Wood bus collision

Avon and Somerset Police have issued an appeal for witnesses following a serious road traffic collision between a pedestrian and a bus last night (Monday 4th February) on the Filton/Stoke Gifford border.

The incident happened at about 6:30pm on the westbound carriageway of Station Road (the A4174 Avon Ring Road), adjacent to the Abbey Wood Retail Park.

The pedestrian – a man believed to be in his late teens – was taken to Frenchay Hospital with serious head injuries. His condition is described as critical but stable.

The road was closed to allow a detailed examination of the scene. It was re-opened shortly before 11pm.

The police are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident to make contact.

Anyone able to help is asked to contact the collision investigation unit on the force number 101 or through the online crime/incident reporting page.

A report about the incident on the ITV News website shows a picture of a no. X18 First Group bus with a windscreen shattered on the nearside.

The X18 is a new “express” commuter service that was introduced in January to provide a link between the Kingswood and Emersons Green areas and major employment centres in Filton and at the Aztec West Business Park.
