Newleaze House demolished to make way for 16 new homes

Demolition starts on Newleaze House in Filton - a Merlin Housing Society development.

The redevelopment of one of Merlin Housing Society’s former older people’s housing schemes in Filton has got underway with the demolition of the old building.

Diggers moved onto the site of Newleaze House in Roycroft Road earlier in the month to begin tearing down the building. The old building has now been completely demolished and the housing association is preparing to build 16 new affordable homes on the site. The new homes will be a mixture of two and three bedroom houses and six one and two bedroom flats.

Development Officer Shane Smith said:

“We’re delighted to be underway with this project and that within the next 12 months, there will be 16 new, quality, affordable homes in Filton.”

The £2m development is being part-funded by a grant from the Homes and Communities Agency through its Affordable Homes Programme. Work is expected to take around 12 months to complete, with people able to move into their new homes next spring.
